Low fish stocking in a moderate/heavy planted tank?
I'm relatively new to this and have learned a TON in a very short while, but there are still gaps in my understanding.
My 30 gallon tank is moderately planted, I'm really focused on getting balance right for good growth, so my hope is that at some point it will become closer to heavily planted. I have 8 espei rasboras and 4 trilineatus corys. Hoping for more of each and maybe even another species. I feel like I read somewhere recently that fish stocking has to be reduced in this type of environment, so I better get realistic about this before I get all wild-eyed about increasing my stock. Can somebody A) let me know if I have that right and B) give me a quick explanation of why stocking has to be kept low- maybe it has to do with O2/CO2 in tank? |

AHH ok, well it works up to 45gal..Most "overstocked" tanks has filtration up to 2x or 3x the aqurium size. For example, I have 2 Cascade 1000 that will filter up to a 100gal(ea) aquarium, I have a 75gal tank. So I have 200gal of filtration on a 75gal tank.

Would you say my ideal is an overstock scenario?
I'd actually considering doing just rasboras & corys, because I love them both so much. So if yes to the above, then maybe 10 rasboras, 6 corys, & 2 honey gouramis? |

p.s. when I did aqadvisor, it told me I had "adequate" filtration. But I also chose espei and Trilineatus, maybe they're smaller?

Well, honestly I only wanted something a bit bigger and ideally yellow as a tank centerpiece. I'd originally wanted 2 gold German rams, but I heard they get territorial/aggressive and I want full tank swim range for my espei school!
I've kind of gotten over the centerpiece thing, though. Hell, I love my tank the way it is right now! |

Gouramis are rather unpredictable. Getting just one might be better. Also, many gouramis have been 'jacked' on growth hormones. They are slow growers, and the farms that they are raised on are usually impatient to to have them off and sold, so they speed up their growth using the hormones. These hormones cut the fish's lifespan in half.

One gold gourami would work. I've had to regime Gouramis before due to aggression. You never know. I have a blue and an opaline in the same tank that are best buddies and follow each other around all day. When I had a pearl gourami in the tank. All heck broke loose. I had to rehome the pearl. By themselves, they tend to just chill out all day. Just a thought.
