Dedicated Shrimp tanks... a step closer to purelines?
So I'm at a cross roads where i really would love my shrimp to thrive. Caridinas and neocaridinas naturally do their best in slightly different parameters of ph/kh/gh. It may seem like spliting hairs but you hardly ever see cherries and blue bolts share tanks right?
It would be great to eliminate the chance of random unexplained deaths while living without environmental compromise. Do any of you have tanks specifically dedicated to species? If so, which species have you elected to keep? Maybe purelines?

I'm definitely going to keep Speedie's OEBTs. I'm debating adding his blue velvets because the params overlap juuuuuust enough (I like variety). I will never be able to afford PRLs or TBs so those aren't an option.

All my tanks are one species only. I keep OEBT 20L, BTOE 15L, CRS 15L, CRS pureline 15L, PFRS, 20L
Will be doing TB 33L, CBS 15L, and Hybrid tank 15L

My 4 connected tanks (37.5 gal total) right now house, SSS in one tank, Golden in another, A/S grade in another and the 4th is for selected breeding. My 20gal is SS only, 10gal is PFR only and my other 20 is yellow/tiger as it's not hard to find a decent pH for both of them to be happy. I'm probably going to ditch the A/S grades and move the SS to that tank and use the 20 for TB's but that's not for a while. It's sort of nice with the 4 connected tanks because the param's are the same, I can pluck any lower grade and move it and I'm moving certain males around from different tanks to make sure they get the females berried, then they come out right away after a female is berried and another male goes in so I know the gene's are getting mixed up with the babies anyways and each male is getting a turn instead of 1 dominant male that could berry 5 females 3 times in a row and the others don't get a chance, i know who the fathers are. This also lets me know that if I get any really nice looking shrimp, that male would go back in instead again if he's producing nice babies. I'd like to have about 20 tanks to do it correct, but I'm working with what I have.

People with Pure Lines and Taiwan Bee tanks seems to be the ones who focus the most on species only tanks.
Those who are focused on breeding any sort of caridina species also tend to have species only tanks simply because the neos tend to outgrow/outbreed the caridina and they don't want the caridinas to be limited as a result of competition/crowding. I have to imagine that it would be hard for neos to breed well in a super low pH tank like what the Asian breeders use for Taiwan Bees and some Pure Lines. Tanks set-up specifically for Tigers or Caridina Serrata will likely be fine for neos though. |

These pants? are fancy.

All of mine are species only, makes breeding easier. Not because of parameters, because of competition for food and being able to easily separate babies.
