I've never heard of any other than local fish shows. Would love to see something like that in the US. We might be behind the overseas breeders, but I think were catching up really fast.

Not sure if anyone would really want to mail in their best shrimp as the risk would be too great.
Ive seen a video on youtube where people would bring their top shrimps to a shop (place resembling Hong Kong) and place them in a 1 liter cube for judging. It documented how the tanks were dressed up with mosses as such to make them comfortable. Judges would walk past the row of glass tanks making comments on each shrimp. Sort of like a beauty pageant with less bikinis...

The massive size of the United States (Canada falls into a similar category) makes things like this more difficult.
If we see something like this it will likely be a SoCal/NorCal thing or possibly something in NYC. I can't see too many people flying cross-country for this. |

Well European and Japanese shows, the breeders dont all show up and hang out, they mail their shrimp in.
The shrimp entered are also auctioned off at the end, with the organization and breeder sharing the profit. We would need to have more than a handful of breeders though, i mean, are you going to buy kkangshiangs shrimp, keep for 1 generation and enter the babies in? |

I agree good Idea but difficult to organize . Another 100,000 people join the hobby and it might be doable . Or would it take a million ? And would it be a show for amateur's or professionals ? Just went to a big fish show for Cichlids and there were surprisingly few tanks with entries in them . Nice fish but seldom more than 1 of a type . I think a competition here is years or decades away unless something radically changes . It would take 100's of us selling shrimp as a sole means of support before it would be possible on the wholesale end . And Millions on the retail end

What if individual clubs had smaller competitions, and all of the clubs would submit pictures of their winning shrimp to a national judging committee? Or would it be too hard to judge them with pictures?
