Cantaloupe clouding water

We ran out of cucumber in my tank so I put a small piece of cantaloupe there instead. The fish (and snails) liked it but within a few hours/overnight it clouded up the water. I removed it and did a 50% water change today and rinsed out all the filters but it's still pretty cloudy. What else to do? Thanks in advance.

Cantaloupe really? I might have to try that one. I've done broccoli, green peppers, zucchini, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage, and whatever veggie I found. Never thought about using fruits! You my friend just added a whole new menu for my tanks. (Off topic sorry) I'd do another 50% water chance

If you put fruit in the tank i always soak it in some water first to get the juice out. A couple of changes of water and it won't cloud as bad also don't leave it in there more then a few hours.

fruits are sugar.
sugar severely increases bacterial production
there was probably a lot of waste bing broken down, its possible this caused the cloudy water. As was previously suggested, it might be worth rinsing the fruit and putting in smaller portions

Just as a followup and for future reference, my cloudy water cleared up after about 5 days. It's perfectly clear now. Thanks for all who offered advice!
