205 vs 206

Hey all I am currently looking at the fluval 205 and 206 both on eBay. They are both new and unopened. I just want to know if the 206 is a great deal better or if it's marginal. Also are there better canisters similar in price. Many thanks

I haven't owned a 205 but I've played with demos.
My 206 feels a bit nicer, the priming pump seems sturdier and fluval says the 06s are faster, more efficient and less prone to leak.
Plus the 06s include media and the 05s don't

I have a 205 and all the media was provided. Mine is silent too. I know I am going to take flak for saying this but my fluval 205 is more quite than my Ehiem 2217. It really is. I have never used a 206 before but visually speaking I find the 205 to be a better looking filter. The 206 looks more like a toy. If you get what I am saying.

I dont think u should base ur purchase on what it looks lilke, base it on performance, cost, durability, and reviews.
From what i understand the 06s are better filters bc they push more water and some marginal upgrades have bin made since the 05.

The reason why a brought up the appearance of the filter is because that is the only thing I can possibly tell a difference between the two, as I have never used the 206. I do know that appearance still can influence a purchase deep down in some people. You might not know it but there is a part of your mind that pulls you toward the nicer looking product. I kind of had a hard time buying an Eheim because of the green intake that seems to be obtrusive.

But still I am not saying to buy a filter only based on its looks.

I haven't seen the 205 and 206 side by side, some stores have 205s on demo and some have 206s and I prefer the 206 but to each his own

The 205s I've looked at locally don't include media, perhaps it's a Canada thing (wouldn't be the first or last thing we get shafted on) so that removes one difference between them.

My 206 is definitely quieter than my eheim 2215 when it runs (long story, hate that filter) and I'm really happy with my purchase.

I can't compare the two but I rather like my 206. It works well and is as quite as a mouse - a requirement of the Missus.
