cracked rim.
I recently purchased a 40B, well the corners are cracked. Should I be concerned? I find a few references to being able to de-rim these tanks with no problems. Can I two-part epoxy it without being concerned about it? Two corners are cracked right on the edge, and the other two look like they have very small cracks on it. I would like to use this tank, but I am also on the same side concerned for its structural stability. I do not want to remove the rim totally, but I could replace it outright if it is going to be a problem.

shouldnt have any issues with it but if your worried then just remove and replace, a dremil will be very handy at helping remove the rim cutting it into sections then razor blade the silicone and should come right up just dont force anything if its not going easy then keep cutting! did u build your stand yet for it or still in the works?

I was a little concerned, I might just call fish den tomorrow and see what the price of a new top rim would be. The tank is not too tall, and the glass is at least 1/4" thick. |

honestly i wouldnt be worried about it but as most tanks 40b ≤ the rims dont really support much its more for safety from the sharp edges if the rim is expensive id just wait on that and use it as is or sell as it and get a 40b for $40 whenthey do the sell again. are u going to make it a shrimp tank? we can keep crs in our tap/rainwater topoffs and have them breed you know
