Starlight Bristlenose Pleco - Ancistrus dolichopterus L183

I am looking to purchase a Starlight Bristlenose Pleco and I read a post regarding the use of CO2 and Starlight Bristlenose Plecos.
It said they are "They are perfect for a high light tank as long as you dont gas them with co2 as they LOVE to eat GDA/GSA and are plant safe as it gets"
Does "gassing them" refer to using any CO2 or is it okay to have them in a tank using a pH controller to maintain a pH set point of 1pH lower than a degassed sample?
