First Build: 10 Gal Shrimp tank - The Moss Box

After a few weeks Lurking I figure it's time to get something started. This is the first tank I've considered planting and I'm not even sure how I got interested in shrimp...

The Setup
  • Aqueon 10 Gallon
  • Aqua Soil - Amazonia
  • 20" FugeRay
  • Finnex Refugium with 6" FugeRay
  • Shiruba PH-101 Power Head
  • Ebay Double Sponge Filter

The filtration seems inadequate and the lighting is probably overkill but this is still a work in progress. I think I'll probably add a canister filter to have some additional circulation.

The plan is to run this as a dedicated shrimp starting with some RCSs and maybe end up with CRSs.

I have yet to settle on driftwood/stone but I plan to get a few mosses, dwarf hair grass, and HC. I like the idea of a moss wall. I don't intend to have hair grass and HC in here long term but would like some experience before I end up with another tank.

I'd prefer to get some plants from forum members but it was 9 degrees F this morning so I figure shipping isn't an option for a while. My LFS says they can get most anything so I'm going to see what they come up with.

I intend on jump starting plant growth with a paintball CO2 setup and then probably dial back on lighting.

i like it, nice and simple setup. for flow and filteration i would recommend the AC20. it's great

btw, i have the same marina breeder box. have you tested it out with that foam by the outflow? my shrimps constant keep jumping over and i'm a little paranoid to put the plastic piece that it came with on there as it raises the water level very very close to the top of the box.

3rd edit. lol just saw this was 2013...

Security Question
While balancing on a piece of wood, two inches by four inches known as a 2x4, John and his friend Sally both spotted a dalmatian inside of a truck with sirens. The animal with John and Sally is a _ _ _?
