do leds help with live plant growth as well as t5s?

Yes they are both appropriate. LEDS have the perk of running with far less heat, electricity, they last forever and can penetrate fairly deeply; bad side: costs are a lot higher for quality. T5HO can penetrate deeply too, depending on reflector quality and they can allow you to grow just about anything, I seem to find these cheaper than LEDS. Both can work to do whatever you want, but it will all depend on quality.
