Too much light for my neons?
I have a 5.5 gallon tank with a 9w and a 13w CF light over it. Seems to be a good amount of light for my plants, but whenever the lights turn on, the neon cower down to the bottom of the tank and loose their color.
This last the ENTIRE time the light is on. Im debating going down to just the 13w light for now and see what happens, but has anyone experienced anything similar to this? |

At Night (lights out) neons, and most other fish, colors fades. This is done while they are sleeping to HIDE from Preditors. Every morning when I turn on my lights all my Cardinals and Rummys are all faded. NO WORRY

5g is to small for neons. You need at least 8 fish for them to start feeling comfortable and thats way to many for a 5g. Id switch to a betta or a badis imo.

A solid 8 to make them comfortable? I'd say the more you have the happier the fish, but I have seen none do okay in a group of 5 but I wouldn't do that to them that's for sure

It is definitely the light. The second I take the lights of the tank they act like normal fish swimming in the mid-range of the tank. The second the lights come back they lose color and cower at the bottom of the tank. Very strange.
