Sitting tanks on carpeted cement
Seeing as the cement has low spots and tanks not sitting flat leveled, I asked one of the lfs what they suggest. It was suggested to just shim the tank as it has bottom trim and to not do the styrofoam method. Has anyone have experience with having to shim a tank on carpeted cement? 55g btw. I am womdering if shimming every part f the trim not resting on carpet is in order or not.

Why is it on the floor to start?

I just shim the four corners. Never had a problem.

Oops, never mind! I was thinking of the tank on a stand on the floor, not the tank directly on the floor.

It's on the floor in our Floridian room because the house is a mobile that needs to be releveled besides not knowing where the joists are yet to reinforce support .... I just don't trust setting it up inside. Tank did not come with a stand and we are on a very tight budget atm. Thinking of making one in the future but one that will sit lower than normal. Thanks for the input.

Styro is cheap and solves all the problems. Forget shimming

I do have some styro long enough and more than wide enough and looks about an inch thick. Too thick?

If tank is on carpet ,then I might make the low side/end, a tad higher than level with shims.
once the tank is full ,the weight will make it close to level this way. |

By low spot do you mean the whole room is slanted or there are just small low pockets?

The slab does slant slightly outwards direction, just checked with a level. As for low spots the center brace is flush against the floor and one front corner is too. The other corners and some of the edges arent flush. I can slide up to 5 playing cards under the trim in those spots.

Its on the floor it isnt going to tip or anything and you probably arent going for show tank while its on the floor, so id just use styro and call it good

Definately not going to be a showtank until after we replace the top trim, if we can find someone to order it for us. Not to mention finding or making a stand for it. For now just gonna be used for propagation. Thanks for your input.

Just for future reference finding just a new top trim is hard and also expensive. Easier to just buy a brand new one for $55 at petco on sale or $100-120 regular from anywhere else
