co2 cylinder/refills

Looking to purchase a 5 lb. alluminum co2 cylinder in northeast nj.. union/elizabeth area. I found a few local welding places that carry them, but I think they are pretty expensive $80 - 100 (the $80 was for a steel cylinder too). Anyone have any good info for me?? Thanks!

That appears to be the general price here in North Jersey. CO2 bottle locally over at AGL run about $100.

You can try looking for a place online. Just make sure the place you plan on filling the bottle will fill your bottle. Our local place will swap out a CO2 bottle, they won't fill one you bring to them.

I got mine cylinder at:
A G L Welding Supply CO Inc
Rt 46 North, Clifton, NJ 07011

Not purchased, rented and refill...cost $90...refills are cheaper, but haven't needed one.

Short of a shiny cylinder, why buy one? I checked out two other places, but they were higher on the rental, and wanted me to sign my life away.

Also AGL knows that people use them on tanks and won't give you the fifth degree on safety, and they even ask about the washer and if you have a fresh one...

thanks!!... i called a place called Goodliffe in Linden today... they said they refill tanks for about $10 or so... I'm thinking its probably best to purchase everything on-line and then get it filled up over there...

Make sure they can inspect and re-certify that tank as well, and get a price for that...

Yep, I figured the tanks would be more reasonable as well. I called Middlesex Welding on Rt. 1 S in the North Brunswick area and the prices were $80-140 for a 5-10 lb tank, plus the cost to fill it. I am going to call them back and see if they will fill tanks bought elsewhere. It would be really ood if I could fill there because they are just around the corner for me.

As an aside, I am trying to find out if BOC will sell on smaller scales...

BOC Gases
575 Mountain Avenue
Murray Hill, NJ
1-908-464-8100

I called them and wound up leaving a message.
Much closer to me than Clifton if they do it.

But yes, based on what some others pay, gotta love tri-state area prices.

I would imagine that there is also a significant portion of that going to the DEP or EPA in NJ due to all the chem manufacturing in the state.

Wonder if any of those places in Piscataway would have tanks and refills...decent amount of industry there...
