Planted 10 gallon + aquaponic bog filter bed
Hello everyone, just moved out of my college apartment back home to where I'm setting up my new setup. I changed my substrate from tacky blue petsmart gravel, to eco-complete and yes, I am running an aquaponic bog bed as a part of my filtration.
Weird thing is, I'm about to go on vacation for a week. So I've had 2 days to put all this together, put everything on timers etc. Hopefully I don't come back to any algae booms or a moldy carpet haha. 10 G DIY CO2 increased lighing to 4wpg CFL bulbs (5 hours a day while I'm gone, when I'm back I'll go 6.5) Eco Complete 1 fancy goldfish Wisteria, Amazon Sword, Annubias Barteri, Anacharis, Rotala Indica, Hornwort, Christmas Moss wall Pics: Old setup New spot. The hood blocks the sunlight Trimmed everything. I'm going to re-scape when I return from vacation I like the Zebra Rock, but I'm not sure if it should be one of my main focal points. Any input on this matter would be most appreciated. Okay and here is the Aquaponic Bed: 30 L plastic tub with a whole cut at the bottom, feeds back into the tank. Pea Pebbles Miniature Horsetail Rush, Water Celery, Yellow Eyed Grass, Mondo Grass, Forget Me Not, Lobelia Cardinalis Seeds in the front right. 2 75 watt 6500K bulbs, 2 23 watt 2700K bulbs, 12 hours a day. Currently, I'm fixing my outfall situation, letting some sealant dry so I can't post more pics at the moment. I'm planning on putting the fountain pump for 1 or 2 times a day for 30 min. I'm leaving for Spokane WA from SF, CA in a few hours (driving) so I wanted to get this up fast. Any feedback/questions/suggestions would be great! |

Thanks. Still wondering if it's working properly or if I'm going to come home to a moist bedroom haha.

Back from vacation! There were no mechanical malfunctions so my bedroom floor was as dry as the day I left it. However, there's been evidence of a power outage in my house for 25-35 minutes so my timers were a little off. Also, I think I messed up my grow light timer leaving it on for 21 hours a day for 9 days. Some of the bog plants looked a little fried.
9 days of neglect: Wisteria grew the most. DIY CO2 was still producing, anubias sprouting new growth. Most importantly, no algae booms or dead fish haha. Bog Bed: With the lights being on for way too long, some of the water celery got a bit tan, as well as some of the forget me not plant looking absolutely fried. The Lobelia Cardinalis seeds sprouted! My summer bog bed filter is under way! Time to buy more fish |

UPDATE:
Went plant shopping. Rotala Singapore, Blyx Japonica, and Dwarf Hairgrass. Also taking a chance on three 13 cent fish from petsmart. 1 has already died but the other 2 look happy. Please excuse my poor photography skills. I'm using my iphone 4s lol. Bog plants showing signs of life. Forget-Me-Not has grown substantially and the water celery is sending off side shoots. Also the Mondo Grass is about to flower. Also the lobelia cardinalis that I mentioned in the previous post, was actually romaine lettuce that I had spilled in the move over. That was a funny discovery. Now I've transplanted my other cardinal flower over. I added a sprig of chameleon, and miniature water mint. |
