Heartnet's 30 gallon - Anubias petite galore
Decided to upgrade from this...
![]() to a 30 gallon long and I've always wanted to start a journal, so here's the building process over a couple of months. Fluval G3 filter outlet and inlet plumbed in through tank side. ![]() I didn't take pictures when I laid out the substrate system, but I used the whole ADA line underneath. ![]() Laying out much of the hardscape. ![]() Fast forward two months... ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm hoping eventually the plants will grow in enough to hide the loc-line outlets. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hardware Tank: 30 Gallon (36" x 12"x 16") Filter: Fluval G3 with BioRio media and Tourmaline-F CO2: Pressurized - GLA Ultimate CO2 regulator with inline atomic diffuser Lighting: TEK T5HO 36" 4x39watt Heating: Hydor ETH heater 200watt Substrate: Aquasoil with powersand and most of ADA's substrate additive line Flora: - Anubias nana narrow - Anubias nana petite - Anubias nana petite 'stardust - Cryptocoryne green - Cryptocoryne tropica - Cryptocoryne becketti - Hemianthus callitrichoides - Echinodorus bleheri compacta - Echinodorus parviflorous (Planned) Fauna: - School of breeding dwarf cories - Some dwarf shrimp Last edited by Heartnet; 10-18-2012 at 07:11 AM.. Those star plants are all eriocaulon species. It was a pain in the rear scape, hence why i upgraded or really 'downgraded' to a more simplistic scape with easier plants to manage long term.

Planted some C. tropica bronze in the middle and some anubias nana narrow on parts of the driftwood. Still have to get more anubias, then wait for them to take root and I'm filling this thing in!

Anubias petite tree completed.
![]() ![]() Upgraded light fixtures. Will have to align hangers properly. ![]() Future plans: Ripping out the HC carpet partially to make space for a parva/moss jungly scape. |

It begins.
![]() FLOODED ![]() Temperature and TDS ![]() PAR micromols at the surface (Light fixture is 17" high) ![]() ![]() Spot stardust. ![]() I'm getting a consistent reading of near 100 microlmols of PAR at the topmost surface of the water and roughly 60 microlmols of PAR near the bottom from corner to corner, which should put it at low to medium light levels. The light is suspended 17" high. The empty patch where the HC used to be is for C. parva and some moss ropes in the future. |

Thanks guys!
Please excuse the low quality pictures. I've been looking at Xenxes journal thread and have decided to move towards a semi-epiphetic/marginal scape that encompasses everything inside and around the tank. Here's a blurry overall photo of how it looks now. There are five metal poles hanging from the wall where I can further expand my orchid collection if I bought more. ![]() I also added an aquaclear 150 and 300, where I plan to add some marginal water plants or semi-aquatic plants. Anyone have suggestions? ![]() ![]() TDS and temperature has been slowly creeping up these past few days.

I'm going out of the box for a semi-riparium style and jungle canopy style. The back of the tank and the space between the light and tank will eventually be filled with epiphytics/terrestials/semi-aquatic plants.
Current tank look as of now. ![]() HOB's - which will get filled up eventually with emergent plants. ![]() ![]() My temporary guest from Jeromeit. His name is Tiny.
