Looking for Flourish EXCEL, locally
I'm getting some nasty black beard algea.
I read the supplementing Seachem flourish EXCEL will take care of this issue. Does anyone know of store in central indiana that carries EXCEL? I have the regular flourish, not the same at all... |

I'm not from Indiana but I can tell you that regular hydrogen peroxide will do the same thing. You can find it cheap in any pharmacy or grocery store. And beard algae is caused by fluctuating co2 levels and too much light. So lower your lighting period and turn up the co2 slowly. You will still have to remove the pre existing stuff by hand.

You can buy it online. Up in Lafayette they sell it at Aquarium World, but they only sell the 250mL bottle, and they charge as much as the 500 mL bottle is online. Excel will harm your crypts and vals, and possibly shrimp, but won't be as hard on other plants as the H2O2. Last time I tried to spot treat BBA an anubias with H2O2 I must have overdone it because the leaves on the anubias melted within a week.

I'm starting to rethink the the EXCEL, I might just spot treat with H2O2.
It's really bad on my java moss, but not really anywhere else.... |

It might be easier to trim the moss. Java moss grows back pretty fast.

The Ark in Merrillville is a great store John knows more about planted tanks than any other store I've been too however i think its way to far to drive just to get excel i say just buy it online or better yet look for a more natural remedy what i did to get rid of my bda was remove as much of it by hand as possible then added 2 flying fox(aka siamese ae) and 6 cherry shrimp and within a week they had it under control also added a marimo moss ball to compete with bda all gone now and my cherrys are doing great too.
