Excel and Vallisneria
I have read that they don't go together well. I have been dosing a 20 G tank with 5 cc (1 cap) daily and the Vals are growing well. I blame (or credit) my super hard water. I have nominally 100 W of light on the tank, I'm new to the site and have been learning about balance. Before I started reading here I thought light was good, so more would be better.
The algae seems to be going away with the Excel treatment. I'm not spot treating, as the whole tank is infested. |

i have read that about some plants, including vals. But I read that if you dose correctly or a little less, they are fine. Please do not take my word though. Wait for someone more experienced.

vals are hit or miss with excel. Some have stated to condition vals to accept excel by slowly dosing and adding in increments.

I have lots of Jungle Vals and dose daily with Excel. I use the recommended 1 cap for 50 gallons. The plants look great!

I dose excel daily with vals as well. At first they started to die back and took a while to acclimate. But a few months later they were growing big and healthy.
The only plant I lost to excel was some anacharis. |

I have used excel on all of my planted tanks (90G, 20G's x 4, 55G, 29G, 15G x 4 all pressurized CO2 injection), I did notice adverse effects/melting on my 29G brackish with Vals, cut back to 1/2 dose every other day and slowly ramped up to 2.5ml/day over 2 weeks, no more issues.
