Distanxe from top of the tank to lights?

How close to the top of the tank surface should I place the t5 tubes? I'm using a t5 glomat, and will more or less have to fill the lid up with them, as I have a rather deep tank (from top to bottom).

What size tank do you have? Considering that it has a wattage of 48, it would only be considered "high" for a 20 long. If your tank is deep as you say, I'd definitely leave it on top.
