Help with chocolate gourami

Ok so his back tail is clamped like he can't even open it and the scales towards the back of his body seem to be losing color. Just started treating him with melafix today. Anybody know what it could be?

Ditto, and even if it tests OK, do a water change, anyway, emphasizing vacuuming the floor of the tank.

I am not sure Melafix is the best for a Labyrinth fish.

Clamped fins (tail or other) suggest there is a problem, but not what it is.
Body losing color might just be because he does not feel good. Still, I do not know what it is.

How long have you had him, and what are the water parameters?

yeah, you're really not supposed to treat any labyrinth fish with melafix (or pimafix)...it can harm their labyrinth organ and ultimately kill them. i'd stop the treatment immediately.

+1 for testing your params and partial water change.

shot in the dark, what size tank is he in and what tankmates, if any, does he have? could be stressed by too small tank or annoying tankmates...

Check the water for sure. Water change will do far more than melafix ever could as the others said

I've almost never cured a Sphaerichthys spp once it's gotten sick - would expect the worst.

Make sure your water is soft and acidic - IAL tea will help. I'd lean towards one of the milder meds (antibiotic) rather than harsher stuff like formaldehydes/dyes but it's difficult to say without a proper diagnosis.

Well it's a 29 gallon tank with 2 other chocolate gouramis an other community fish. I changed the water and stopped with the melafix. Apparently from what I have been reading chocolate gouramis are very hard to keep and it's hard to tell what he has. Thanks for the advice and Iam just going to hope for the best.
