Low Tech, Low Maint, Low Cost Nano Ideas?

Hello all!

I would like to give my friend a small shrimp set up as a gift, but I want it to be easy and cheap on my end. I'm new to shrimp too, so I'm not sure how low tech I can go and still get away with it.

I thought you might have some suggestions for me. I want something small with a couple of plants and a dozen or so cherry shrimp that could easily sit on a desk or counter.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

2.5 or 1 gallon tank. Sand. filter.

Cherry shrimp are pretty durable so have fun.
