My first freshwater attempt.

Lurking and learning here for a while and thought I was ready.
Any comments would be great.
8 gallon Biocube that was a nano reef that I became bored with and decided to simplify. So the bio balls were gone and the pump was upgraded. I have sponge and carbon in second chamber Fluval Shrimp stratum substrate. Various plants banana, micro swords, java moss and 2 that I do not have ID's for, 9 green tetras, 2 otto's, 3 cherry and one amano shrimp and 8 guppy fry growing out that will return to my son's guppy tank. I have a 1 liter DIY yeast Co2 generator and I have two 18 watt CF bulbs 1 is 10K and the other is a 50/50. I do a 20% water change every 4-5 days. The flow is throttled way back currently and I may have to increase it.

Neat looking little tank. The rocks throw the scale for everything else a little off though!
Do you have any problems with the fish swimming into the filter area?

There is a mesh block that I placed behind the overflow to prevent fish and snails from passing through. It kind of acts a a pre-filter as well. I think the biggest issue in the photo is the huge co2 diffuser. I am waiting for my nano version to arrive in the mail. I have all of the components to convert to pressurized co2 from my reef tank calcium reactor. I need a new probe for the PH controller first.

The crypt on the right I believe is wendtii green I believe, and that thing in the back corner looks like some sort of sword which will probably eventually grow to be half the size of your tank haha... at least :p

I would move the crypts in the middle of the rock cluster possibly towards the java moss more, then move the micro sword in the middle of the tank into the middle of the rock cluster kinda where your crypt is now. The crypts will eventually grow taller than the microsword so itll give it a nice depth IMHO

I agree with synthorange the rocks throw off the tank, i would cut down on a few and maybe use some driftwood to balance it off.. Maybe eliminate the 2 most right rocks and reposition the others throw a DW piece in the middle of the 2 or to the right corner. You have that nice growth of moss on the left, you need something as eye catching on the right to balance it. Overall beautiful plant growth !

Nice! I don't know if it's just me but I feel like the rock on the right has a sort of sleepy smile face thing going on, haha :P

An update photo since 2/2/12. I am still on DIY Co2 and moved all of the guppies as I said to sons tank. I did take out one rock. The banana has sent up three lilly pads. I did a little trimming of the swords in the back and I also did some shaping of the moss a few weeks ago. So far no berried cherries so I might add a few to increase the chance of a female.

I love it! I've been planning a Biocube 8 for a little bit and plan to do a divided tank for two male bettas. Love how grown your cube looks.
