Check out my new RO/DI unit
I never wanted to get an RO/DI unit because I thought it would take up space and having 2 shrimp tanks was enough to make me look crazy in a normal person's eyes. I figured that if I had another contraption sitting on my counter top then anybody that would step foot in my apartment would think I'm a freak. Well, I kept purchasing two gallons of distilled water to do my weekly water change which was no big deal as it only cost me 2 bucks. Instead of buying just the two gallons I would always pick up like 10 at a time. See where I am going with this? The gallons of water would take up more space than an RO unit so I decided to order a portable one off of e--bay.
It's a 100 gallons per day unit which cost me ~65 bucks shipped. It is very small so I can put it away after I'm done purifying the water. Took me about 5 seconds to put it together so that was a plus as well. I just tested the TDS and it's at exactly 0 which means that it's working well. It screws right into my sink...at the moment I am timing how long it takes to fill up a 5 gallon bucket. Here are some pics....I put my hand in one for size comparison. ![]() ![]()

glad you bought it, now you can have perfect water for plants and other animals. not bad for that price either.
instead of collecting it in the container and hooking it to sink, you can hook it in the laundry room, this works better for me. you can also use the auto shutoff with floater and use that to fill some kind of container like garbage can etc.

I got a similar smaller unit that hooks to a faucet from http://www.airwaterice.com. I have been quite happy with it and it is a nice solution for those of us in apartments.
