Mts: dolomite replacement?
Dear all, i have come across Aaron'mts when i was looking for an efficient way of makinh substrate. The only thing that i wonder about is the replcement for dolomite since it is quite hard for us to find this product. However at a lical chemist we can actually buy separate components of dolomite such as mg an cAo, caco3 etc. Can these powders be replacement for dolomite in theory?

Yesterday I mixed magnesium sulfate, potassium chlorate and calcium oxide at portions of 1-2-2 consecutively, all in powder forms enough to cover but still can see the tank glass bottom slightly. Any remarks on this? Thanks for your help.

You don't have to cover the bottom perfectly. You should be good with what you have done.

If you have the clay still apart from the soil, mix your powders into it before mixing the clay into the soil. Otherwise mix the powders into the soil clay mix. Dolomite is a slow steady release of minerals, mixing the powders with the clay will slow down the release of minerals, a little.

The calcium carbonate will work in place of dolomite.

Not completely. The dolomite is also a Mg source.

Great imput guys! Following my research on dolomite replacement i have found that dolomite is 30%mg and about 70% cAlcium oxide. Not sure if this is correct but i am trying this on a small container and put on my tank. I need more imputs guys! Aaron can you give me a replacement, chemical wise, like powders would be best!

Here's a good thread for informative purposes. There aren't many that I know of who have gone beyond theory to application. But it's certainly intriguing.
