Are you running co2? I have the fixture, it is a pretty good one. The reflector is not the best, But I can grow just about any plant I wish under it being mounted 6" above the top of my 21" deep tank.

I have the same fixture over my 36g bowfront; be very careful with photo periods or you can grow one heck of an algae culture

I don't have the zoo med lighting fixture, I have the Coralife Aqualight, but I will give you my opinion.....if I had to choose my lighting all over again and go with a T5HO or regular T5NO I would buy from Catalina.....just google Catalina Aquariums and you will find it. They have good prices and from what I have read and seen, their reflectors are fantastic which is important, and I don't know about Zoo meds, but Coralife's reflectors are just like an acrylic which is polished. It is fair, but if I was going to do it again, I would take a Catalina. The fixtures are pretty easy on the wallet too for what your getting. In fact, I think I will probably end up sellilng my Coralife for one.

I use the zoomeds and sometimes I have to turn off one of the lights cuz it is too much and algae will try and grow. So I think you will be safe. Its better and harder to underlight then too overlight.

Thank you for fast responses, on average, how long do the lights last? I wanted this light because I have a $40 gift card for Petco.

I replace my bulbs once per year, If you have a place to hang the light using the hanging kit included in the fixture you will be at a better position to reduce or increase the intensity as you need. I have mine hanging from the ceiling, but there are many that create DIY light bars from electrical conduit and attach them to the stand.

I removed the clear plastic thing that slides to protect the lights, it was just annoying lol. Everything else I really like about the fixture.

i had this light for over 6 moths now. its great, using it for my 20g tank. its mounted on the brackets like 3 inches above the surface. never had any algae problems. plenty of light and the growth is great.

Sorry to steal the thread, but how many inches above the aquarium would you guys recommend for a 12" tall tank (20 gallon L)?
