Strange smell from a used filter
So while I was browsing my local Goodwill, I spotted an old used Clear Dive 85II filter sitting on the shelf in the completely wrong box. Seeing as it was marked as $5.00 I decided to go for it. After I get it home and clean it out I noticed that it's got a really strange smell.
Gun powder. It's very distinct and a little off-putting, but I was curious if it would be harmful to anything I decided to put with the filter if I couldn't get rid of the smell completely. I've currently got it running in an empty 10g with fresh carbon and new custom filter pads. |

I would consider cleaning it out with water/bleach or water/isopropal alcohol.
I cant imagine gunpowder would be able to stay around with cleaning it with either of those Quote:

gunpowder is a mixture of sulfur, charcoal, and potassium nitrate (saltpeter), nothing we dont already add to our tank.
(sulfur is in prime, saltpeter is a fert, and charcoal in the filter.) |
