I posted a picture of my new rimless tank on another, more fish focused, aquarium forum. Somebody replied: "nice tank, but what's up with rimless?"

What would you have said?

@nvladik: my first thought was totally "if you have to ask, you probably won't understand"
@NWA Planted, I should have consulted you first!

Or...it was on clearance because the rim broke off when it fell out of the truck.

I would have said, "Where we're going.....we don't need roads." Then tell him/her, rimless is the future, and that's where I am headed. It's not for everyone.

What's up with rimless?

Well, for starters, it keeps the tank from looking like a widescreen movie on a standard-screen TV...

You could say:

"Well to be honest with you, Jim (name), I was hoping that the tank would fail so I could get an insurance claim on my place with all the damages so I could afford a monster tank at the $1 a gallon PetSmart sale. Don't tell anyone that though."

There's no accounting for taste.

So it didn't pay its taxes and was thrown into federal prison. The end!

Thank You, pretty cool huh?

I like it so much better than that retro 70s plastic
tank cover/lights. I mean that was O.K. when I was a broke H.S. kids. I always thought that the cheesy wood grain plastic trim detracted from looking at my plants & fish. Looking back on those tanks now they remind me of kid's toys.

I've seen rimless Reef tanks, Plant tanks and even Cichlid tanks and every thing looks so much better without all that distracting cheap plastic. I saw your tanks, you do a nice job. I have to think when there day comes that you upgrade your tanks will be the best on the site.

If you need some help finding a rimless PM me I'll try to help.

If that doesn't work, put him on the IGGY List

Ok, I'll be 'That guy' . . . I guess I don't get "rimless" either. I'm just too practical. A rimmed tank:

#1. Conceals the water line and thus conceals if the tank is a wee bit out of level.
#2. Strengthens the glass joints.
#3. Supports a glass lid
~Prevents carpet surfing
~Reduces evaporation
~Supports the light fixture.

I guess I'm too utilitarian. . . I very much prefer rimmed tanks.
