New from NJ

Hey all,

New member here from central NJ.

Currently have:

75G - Red ear slider (male, ~8", ~8yrs) with home built above-tank-basking-area.

55G - Red ear slider (male, ~6", ~6yrs). He only has a floating dock for the time being.

29G - Assorted tetras (>1") and 3x SA bumblebee catfish, home built 2xT8 lighting hood. Currently battling both ich and BBA in there Probably came in with the most recent tetras from the local chain fish store. The ich seemed to explode out of nowhere overnight. Seems to be contained now, so I'm just dealing with the BBA. Tank is sparsely planted with vallis, java fern on driftwood, and water wisteria.

10G - Moderately planted, 25x red cherry shrimp, standard lighting hood with 2x household CFLs, Eco-complete substrate. Marimo ball, windelov fern, anacharis, java moss. This is the tank that brought me to TPT - I wanted to do this one right!

Once I get the 29G under control, I am hoping to put together and hook up a paintball CO2 injection system. I also have a 40G available to me that I may end up switching the contents of the 29G into.

Thanks! Some are nicer than others... The basking area for the turtles came out nice, and I LOVE the way the shrimp tank is coming along - my first time keeping shrimp. I'll have to get some photos up here!

Here's a few photos of the shrimp tank ... I'm still trying to work out the aquascape details; I'm really happy with it overall but think it needs maybe one nice hardscape focal point. Probably going to look for some driftwood.

The tank (10G):

Some of the pygmy chain swords, the mossy knoll, anacharis:

One of the males:

Top of the world! on the moss mall, crypt parva:

The chain sword is positively thriving so far. Water wisteria are cuttings from another tank and so far so good. Moss and windelov ferns seem to be happy. The crypt parva seemed to decline a bit from first planting, but is starting to make a comeback. That's a little perplexing because the parva isn't supposed to suffer crypt melt...

The anacharis is doing about as well as I could hope... I don't really love the stuff, but it grows very quickly and can help take up space to make the tank look lusher until the "real" plants start filling in Plus the turtles go nuts over it!

Thanks, I hope it continues. This is my first time using a substrate designed for plant growth (eco-complete). In the past I've used play sand or simple inert gravel, and while I had growth for a few months, it would always inevitably start dying off.

I am waiting on a few parts still, but I am hoping to have a CO2 injection system up and running by next week!

I'm also trying Flourish Excel in another tank ... I'd like to use it in the RCS tank, but I've read that it can decimate anacharis at recommended concentrations, so until I have something different to replace that plant I am holding off.
