13 Gallon Moss Scape

This is a continuation of an older tank, the 12 Gallon Squat

DSM went well, but had an issue with mold, so I decided to scrap the project.

I scored a cool looking piece of wood, and decided to go with moss.

New scape ideas:

Okay, some more details about the setup:

In addition to cutting out the tank, I have also taken some time to make this light fixture that holds 2 finnex fugerays

Since the tank is so deep, I figured I would need to either raise up lights or get a new fixture to put alongside the first.

Look at that moss growth! Weeping moss may be my new favorite.

Hydrocotyle being photogenic:

Young Tiger shrimp:

Cories on the loose!

Okay, here is a major update for this tank.

I was not enjoying the scape, mostly because the fish were hiding behind the piece of wood, which was, while interesting, slightly too bulky for the tank.

I managed to get some very nice Redmoor root wood at a LFS in Long Island, and so, the scape has been greatly simplified.

Stage 1:

Maybe a little too simple? Hmm...

That's more like it!

Here is the new FTS:

More pleasing to the eye.

I have re-attached the weeping moss with CA glue, so it will take some time for it to grow in, but I am liking this much better.

As you can see I also simplified the lighting situation, now using only 1 Fugeray, the 20" versions were stronger than I anticipated, so 1 fixture elevated about 9" up will do the job just fine, and keep algae at bay.

Fauna list:

~15+ Pygmy cories
Tiger Shrimp
Yellow Shrimp
1 Panda garra

Plant List:

Hygro pinnatifida
Anubias Nana "petite"
Weeping moss
HM
Mini pellia

Moved some stones around to support the scape a little better. I think I will leave it and let it grow out now.

You can see I tied some mini pellia to the stones around the base. I have never used this plant before, so hopefully it looks right when it grows out.

I also added an eheim skimmer to take care of the surface scum.

Comments/critique welcome.
