Home depot light

So I just got the go ahead to convert our 55g tank to a planted tank but I have a limited budget to work with. I was looking at lights at Home depot and saw this http://www.homedepot.com/Lighting-Fa...&storeId=10051. I love the diamond plate hood I am an auto technician by trade so it fits me. I am planning on a heavily planted tank with co2. Will this be enough light?

I'm running the same on my 90 gallon (see sig).

One will provide you with low, but workable light. Nice thing is, if you decide you need more you can just get another one. If your at the Depot, look around for the GE "daylight" 6500k shop light bulbs, they work excellent and cost like $8 a pair.

Thanks guys +1 on the bulbs from home depot, my goal is to be able to get as much stuff as I can from Home depot lol. I still have not decided on a substrate yet.

i got miracle grow organic and sand from home depot

you can get white pool filter sand for approx 10 bucks for 50 pound bag at a pool supply place .

Some Home Depots carry Black Diamond as well. Lol

hm. seems a little low... you might look into a retrofit kit a bit later if it doesn't work out. People also have had success with brooder lamps, but I'm not sure how well that'd work for a 21" deep tank.

I'm leaning towards brooders myself, as it's generally cheaper.

Bringing this thread back to ask a question of my own.. so in reality I could actually just use one of these for two 20gals next to eachother ? Might be a stupid question just wondering since I'm looking to make a tank rack and I ll just mount these under the shelves for light

20 gallon tanks are about 16-17 inches high, where 55 gallon tanks are about 20-21 inches high. That would cause the HD light to give you about 40% more PAR over two 20 gallon tanks than over one 55 gallon tank. But, if you mount it so it is about 20 inches above the bottom of the 20 gallon tank it would give the same light as on a 55 gallon tank.
