Damn. And that fixture doesn't have the groove to fit the aqualight legs does it? there's gotta be some way besides suspending it with wires. It will probably have be a ghetto rig, but if it works it works

I have aluminum welding rods. You could drill out the original little mounting holes and bend this stuff the way you want. Aluminum should be safe for your tank.

Yeah I was thinking sonethink like Bill said too. My aqualight has a depressed rail groove that allows for the metal clips to slide in and secure the plastic legs. If u could find a wire that is the same size as the coat hanger like wire on there now, you could just remove the old ones and bend the new stuff to fit and have it be as long as you want it to be. Welding rods would probably be perfect. You'd just have to find the right gauge. Or like Bill said just drill out the holes to fit

Great minds think a like, i was thinking about it last nite, and was thinking about some kind of wire, coat hanger would b to thick i think and drilling it out sounds like a pita. So u think welding rod will b strong enough? R we talking the thin wire stuff for a gun or the fatter rods u hold in ur hand?

Prob the stuff you hold in your hand. Just find a welding place . Than Just bring the origional wire in with you and find one thats a match in diameter. aluminum is more pliable and would be easier to bend into a specific shape like the one you need.

put it in a vise and use your hands. just hold up the old wire for a general reference and bend it to fit

+1 that's exactly how to do it. a propane torch will help matters along. also make sure you get the purest aluminum rod you can. you don't want any flux in it. buy tig rod. avoid arc welding rod since it is coated in flux. any welding supply store should have it. i use a place on church st, by aramingo ave. oh, and like sam said, you want rods, not a spool. that only comes in small flexible diameters. i will venture a guess and say you would need rod that is somewhere in the range of .180-.250 diameter.

I was also thinking a long the lines if pvc pipe cut in half length wise and painting it black, but then i still gota figure out how to attach the C's to the fixture., do u think velcro would hold? That way it would b interchangeable for difrent heights.

Water does not really affect velcro, im more worried about lateral strength in case some one bumps into it. The tank has a glass lid so im not to worried about stuff falling in the tank.
I just think black pvc C's would look cleaner. The more i think about the diy wire feet the less i like it.

Use the pvc as legs? I think I'm picturing it wrong in my head.

Yea what i was thinking is cut pvc pipe in half length wise so u end up with 2 C's. I would use
On each end of the light, 1 facing this way "C", and on the other side facing the other way. Kinda hard to explain. I want the 2 open parts facing each other, and the convex sides facing away from each other. Im thinking of using velcro on the top of the c's to attach to tue fixture.
