did you rinse it first? oh please tell me you did not!! it normally takes about 2 days and a water change for my ebi to clear when i disturb the stratum too much.

I rinse it in a 10 gal and then put them in the 38gal.

Yes.. ordered placed.. should arrive by Tuesday.

oh, i should have told you. do not rinse the stratum, whether it be the shrimp or plant. you will never get it clear. i dunp the stratum in, cover my hose with a plastic bag with pinholes in it and fill. voila! no cloudy water

now you know you MUST send me pics when the news kids arrive!!

If the tank ever clear up! I will have DW in the tank as well. I can't believe I've been staring at that tank until I did WC yesterday and then it daunt on me that I have the poret foam divider for it. That tank is going to have plenty of bio.

wow, van has driftwood and shrimp in a tank. why i never thought i would see the day!!LOL

massive amounts of bio are not a bad thing so, um, when's the name change? i'm thinking discuscrsandprlonly........lol

oh, i set up a crs culling tank today. nothing fancy, just a 15g i had laying around. threw in some peat, some leftover substrate from the 55 and a sponge filter. i figure even if i see berried females tomorrow, that still gives me about 5-7 weeks for the tank to cycle. plenty of time.

Just throw a few of those new sponge you got into the 55 gal. Always good to have extra established sponge around. I have not cycle a tank for a very long time.

55 is gone. it got replaced by the 75. but i am gonna toss a few into the 125 since half of it is now empty.

Tank cleared up quite a bit today. I can now see the sponge filter..

I don't think there are enough stratum so I need to order some more. Is it me or does this stuff just turn into dirt once it break down?

Yeah.....it's kid of like corn puff but using dirt. Break the air bubbles up inside and you have dirt.

Yep - makes a mess when replanting in it also but settles pretty quickly for me.
No messier than a dirt tank really.
