My 60P! Driftwood and rocks

I just set this up a few days ago, acquired all my gear used from another hobbyist!

Stuff:
ADA 60P
ADA Solar I with bent electric conduit as a hanger
Eheim Professional II canister filter
200W Hydor inline heater
Lily pipes, ADA intake and a knock-off outflow
La Plata sand
ADA Aquasoil Amazonia
5lb CO2 tank with inline reactor (I don't know the name!)
Glass drop checker I got from someone here!

Flora:
Anubias nana var. bonsai or petite or something like that.
Some kind of moss I got from Aqua Forest here in San Francisco
Bolbitis heudelotii
Bolbitis heteroclita "difformis" (it was labeled "mini bolbitis" but I'm not super sure on the accurate taxonomy of these guys)
Hygrophila pinnatifida in the far back, hopefully will grow taller!

Fauna:
????
planning on Psuedomugil gertrudae or Pseudomugil cf. paskai? Any suggestions would be appreciated too!
Also the usual Otocinclus and Amano shrimp.

FTS today 3.24.15

from an angle:

I was going for the whole sand on the foreground with an island of driftwood and plants look that is more common in larger tank. Is there a name for that style of aquascape?

Forgive the moss, I tied it on after I filled in the tank, and it's all on very loosely. Or I crammed the moss into the driftwood's nooks and crannies.

Water's still a little cloudy! I'm not running any carbon in the canister filter, just biomedia and filter floss. Looks clearer every day doing ~30% water changes though, so just gonna be patient I think.

Ammonia levels are still a little high at around .5-1.0 ppm. Nitrite levels are around 0.50ppm. I'll wait until the tank cycles before I add any fauna!

I am going to dose via EI, but not sure when to start it exactly? CO2 is running right now, am I supposed to start dosing too? I felt like the Aquasoil was leaching lots of nutrients right now so maybe it's not necessary immediately?

Any and all comments/cricitisms/suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks guys!

I've decided to add Purigen to clear up the tank, I haven't noticed improvement with just water changes recently. Ammonia levels still high! I'm seeing Nitrite too though so hopefully not much longer

VERY BEAUTIFUL AQUASCAPE!!!!

Looks like it has been setup for years except for the lack of fish! I'll be excited to hear what kind of fish you decide to put in there!

Keep up the great work!!!

Hey San Diego! Awesome looking scape! You can start dosing right away. Your plants will grow faster and help speed up the cycle. You don't have a whole lot of plants in there so if it were me I would modify EI and scale it down a little.

Thank you Kep!

Ammonia still at 1 ppm. Nitrites still present and nitrates were around 10-20ppm yesterday. I did a 30% water change today! I'll try out a little more of a dilute EI. I read somewhere that Anubias is also prone to show any deficiencies in a high tech set up so I'll keep an eye on them.

The "mini bolbitis" has started melting on some. My research tells me this is an incredibly slow growing plant, and people aren't even sure if it's a fully aquatic plant?

Bolbitis isn't showing any growth either, and the old leaves are incredibly dark colored, some with holes. I think I will trim them down to the rhizomes.

Anubias and H. pinnatifida doing well though! Seeing new growth already.

Aquarium is much more clearer now, time and Purigen are doing the trick.

Update!

I added fish and shrimps! Some species of Neocaridina and Amanos for shrimp.
I also added 7 Pseudomugil cf paskai and 2 Otos.

I've decided to go with an Avatar themed aquarium. Yes, the nickelodeon cartoon.

The P. cf paskai will be the airbenders. I have a female blue betta on the way that will be a water bender (Korra), the shrimp are the earthbenders (they're brown and green colored), and I plan to get Dario dario as firebenders. Woohoo!

This is April 13, 2015. Lots of greenwater and hair algae!

This is April 21, 2015, just a week later. Amazing work by the Amanos and Otos. I also did slightly up my CO2 and increased micros because I noticed my bottle was growing some fungus.

Airbenders! They have a blue stripe down their backs.

Thanks andrewss! Yeah these fish are lovely. The local fish store had them for a while so I was very lucky, they're a bit rarer.

Also I forgot to mention in my update that I added a glass cover. I bought a piece of glass made from a glass shop and just put it up with the ADA metal clips that come with every aquarium. Just wanted to prevent Amanos and my future bettas from jumping.

Default Nice Looking Tank !!!

Hey friend,

NICE TANK !
Love that you are using sand instead of HC everywhere and everyone doing it.

I too lived in San Francisco and have a 60P and 60F.

I noticed you got some algae type of green thingy on the bottle of your sand.
How much you dose on the EI ?

Love the Avatar theme. Great looking tank. When I saw the algae I said yikes! Otos and Amanos sure are little workhorses.
