Bubbles forming below gravel

Hi have two 20 gallon tanks with a thin layer of organic soil at the bottom and a layer of flourite at the top. I keep getting massive amounts of bubbles forming below and whenever i poke a hole to plant a new plant (example) the bubbles come out from underneath. Why does this happen and what can be done? I heard MTS will aerate the soil and prevent this, but i'm not too sure. Thanks!

When you say flourite, do you mean flourite sand or the gravel? MTS can definitely aid in letting those gas bubbles out if it's sand. They'll have a harder time digging into the gravel though.
