what is your favorite beer?

I have been a fan of the Guiness for a long time, but I have recently discovered a new favorite: Murphy's Stout. I am also a huge fan of the hard ciders (with Woodchuck being my top choice). What beer(s) do you like? Please post your favorites.

Well Guinness has always been a solid go to brew, but for locals I like Gritty's black fly stout.

Mostly I'm into brewing my own right now. I have a batch(almost gone) that is a modified Baltic Porter recipe. I call it an Imperial Maple Baltic Porter.............came out great.

For all practical purposes, Guiness is pretty blah in my taste.

The Boulevard Smokestack series is pretty amazing. Their Saison is really a favorite of mine.

I am a homebrewer so I have at any point, 60 gallons of beer in the house. I have almost 40 gallons(8 batches) that needs to be bottled. Motivation is running low.

If you like stouts, you should venture out a bit. Guiness is expensive for what you really get. Try some of the sixers that are a buck more per pack, venture out into things you've not heard of or seen.

Brewers I love: Deschutes, Stone, etc. My recommendation to find new beers is to try LOTS.

Edit: My other recommendation is to keep it simple. I brew some pretty radical brews. Super high IBU(hops). Funny additions like chocolate, lactose, chilli, coffee, caffeine. But when looking for "new" beer try things that are "basic" in flavor, but quality. Goose Island also has some excellent beers that are easy to come by(some that are very hard to come by too).

I have tried Guiness in most of its' forms, and tap is by far the best. For me, bottled Guiness is not all that good, but the canned Guiness with the widget for carbonation is actually pretty good. The Murphy's Stout has the same nutty taste but with a lot less bitterness. Can you recommend any stouts specifically?

Deshutes Obsidian, Goose Island Bourbon County Stout, Stone Imperial Russian, Goose Island Oatmeal Stout.

But then you should venture out. Try Deschute's Black Butte Porter--amazing. Other Porters, Imperial Stouts, Dark/Black Lager, Black Ipa-IBA, etc.

You'll find that Guiness is actually really low in flavor profile. This isn't a bad thing, there is just more to most stouts than this. On tap it is usually horrible in my experience, but this is because bars don't know how to pour it(or most beers) and don't use the proper beer gas for a stout faucet.

My favorite beers...

1. Orale, from Del Norte; Longboard, from Kona; Sam Adams Light - easy drinking lagers with nice, clean tastes (each a little different); great BBQ beers

2. 90 Shilling, from O'Dell's - great "belly-up-to-the-bar" beer, almost perfect beer on tap

3. Miller High Life - not a "good" beer by any means, but there's a certain alchemical transformation it undergoes when the sun is up, I've just finished a long day working in the yard, and I'm sitting poolside... it becomes the nectar of the gods for that too-short moment in time

Taste in food (and beer) is definitely a personal thing. I don't like Guiness...

A couple that I recently tried and liked...

Wychwood's Hobgoblin Dark English Ale
Sierra Nevada's Celebration Fresh Hop Ale
Deschutes Fresh Hop Mirror Pond Pale Ale
Big Sky's Moose Drool Brown Ale
Russian River's Pliny the Elder

Firestone Walker's Double Barrel Ale is one I usually get when dining out. Leffe Blonde is a fav too. Like OS, I am homebrewing and so I don't buy much beer anymore...
