Can I put another betta in tank after death?

So I had a betta die 2 days ago from what I believe was dropsy http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/fi...e-disease.html

I tested the water and It seems fine:
ph=6.6
Ammonia=0ppm
Nitrite=0ppm
Nitrate=0ppm

I was wondering If I could put another betta in the tank now. I really don't want to treat the tank with medicine, and I thought that since there are no fish in the tank now, then there wouldn't be nything for the new betta to catch the disease from?

Dropsy can be caused by various things - including poor water quality and bacterial infections. If it was a bacterial infection that caused it then there is a good chance it can be passed on to a new fish. There is really no way to know.

If it were me I would tear the tank down, disinfect everything I could, replace the gravel, and start over. I do that any time I lose a betta and put a new one in the tank regardless of why it died, simply because a new betta that has been sitting in a cup full of dirty water for whatever length of time will probably have a weakened immune system.
