Steve's Fantastical 10g Paludarium

I always like paludariums, but never built one. So I decided to bring out my dusty, hardwater stained 10g from my basement and make a paludarium out of it. I plan to put white clouds or some other small cold water speciesin , maybe even some crabs (who knows). Like I said, this is my first go at one of these doohickeys, so we'll see what comes out of this. Oh and lesson learned - Listen to the warnings! Don't touch wet great stuff! It's sticky!

Equipment: Dome Style Fluorescent, Small Fountain Pump, and filtration will be from the plants (yeah I know, simple)
Substrate: Land -Eco-Earth, Organic Potting Mix. Water- Sand or very small gravel
Plants: Undecided (Moss probably and some other plants)
Fish: Undecided

Pics! So here is the marshmallowy stage that Im at.

I do have a question. I plan to have the left corner look like a stump. What should I have cover/color/seal it? I dont want to put coco fiber on the stump (It would look too much like dirt).

Well after a series of events, I finally kinda completed it. Putting the coco fiber on was a PITA! There are still some bare spots, but hopefully the baby tears and future moss will cover it. I still have to get a mini heater and maybe a very small internal filter. Current inhabitants are some MTS and a DT betta (name undecided). I also plan to add some shrimp when algae starts forming.

Equipment: Dome Style Fluorescent, Small Fountain Pump, and filtration from plants.
Substrate: Land -Eco-Earth, Organic Potting Mix. Water- Sand
Plants: Ficus sp, Potho, Rabbits Foot Fern, Baby Tears, and Dracena Sanderiana.
Inhabitants: DT Betta and MTS

And here are some pics. Comments and criticism and suggestions appreciated.

"Hello!" Stress line very prominent. Just a little shocked from being in a 8oz cup to a 2.5 gallons of water.

Let me know how the Dracena Sanderiana works for you. I'm setting up a planted aquarium for the first time, and picked up some plants yesterday. My LFS was selling Dracena Sanderiana as an aquatic plant, which I was skeptical about in the store, but I thought it was pretty so I picked it up anyway. Now, from my reading, it looks like it's not aquatic after all - which is fine for me, because I'm also planning to set up a paludarium soon - so I'm curious to see how yours does.

Thanks! This was my first shot, and I'm surprised how decent it turned out.

Anyways here is a little update. The plants are starting to grow, mostly the baby tears. I'm a little worried about the betta. I had it for a week and it still isn't eating. Should I be worried? I'm guessing it may be because of the cool heater (dont have a heater but will be getting one shortly).

Im also planning to put a green tree frog in here, but not until the betta is fully established and eating.

Here's the little Mr. Picky Pants

Haha... Yeah they are pretty cool. You get the best of both worlds. Aquarium and Terrarium.

Looks good! Is it still running? I'd love to see some recent photos if it is.

Dan

P.s. I should add I'm currently making a similar tank
