Planted axolotle tank? Can I do it?

I have a 15 gallon long tank with an axolotle I have a 2x24 t5 glo fixture I can use for lighting I will not be running c02 I'm just wondering what plants will live in a cold water tank and what I can do about algae as well tank mates are scarce for axolotle's due to there sensitive gills can you help me?

Well, lots of plants enjoy cold water, just about all of them.

As far as tank mates, they'd have to be bigger than the axolotles mouth, faster, and not nippy. So maybe rasboras? Definitely not tetras.

Dwarf Rainbows could be an option but I would think a 15g might not be enough room for them.

i thought axolotl were pretty big, I think they'd be able to eat a rainbow.

Some kind of North America native fish such as a Johnny darter could be fun for a tank like that.

That setup sounds like it could work nice with riparium plants.

They can grow anywhere between 6"-18", but on average they are 9"

Axolotls do not like bright light and should not be kept with any fish.

Hydro, I was just about to suggest a riparium for this set up. why not a riparium with some african butterfly cats

@cynth, in a riparium most of the light will be diffused by the plants, i think it would be pretty cool without too much of an issue...
