Hi there, just wondering how many of you have been in the path of totality during a total solar eclipse.

I did, went to Ceduna last year, which is in my neck of the woods, around 1000km away.

I have got to say if you get the chance to go and see one, do it, it will blow your mind away. I had all these expectations of what it would look like and it was so different that from that image, that I didn't talk for over three hours.

The little shot under my name is from that eclipse, and even that does not show it fully in all its glory.

Now I have to wait until 2006 in Lybia (Africa) as the one this year at Antarctica is booked out on the plane.

Anyway tell me what you think and I will leave you a shot I took.

Rumple

I saw one in the middle 60s, maybe 1966. My house was in the path of totality. At the beginning and end there were bands, waves of shadows that ran across the ground, all the birds shut up, dogs and animals hid, and it looked like you had sunglasses on during totality. The light was an unusual color, everything was too quiet. Weird.

That is eerie, indeed. What is amazing is how suddenly close and familiar the moon becomes, when compared to the sun.

Yeh weird things happen. Just before totality, 20 seconds, all the shadows started curving and all our clothes went a strange golden colour. Then when totality occurred the sky went this blue majentta colour and the sun was replaced by this fuzzy white and red donut. Pity it only lasted 32 seconds. It was the most incredible experience I have ever had.

Anyone else want to comment.

i saw a near eclipse, the weird thing I noticed was that in the shadows under trees the bits of light were all crescents. the gaps between leaves acted like tiny pinhole cameras.
