Is this algae?
Hello all,
I have 9gallon tank with plants, (HC, Needle Leaf Ludwigia, and Green Cabomba). This was a new setup (last saturday, 1/14/12), and the past few days ive been seeing these little little block spots/dots on all of my plants, can you guys help identify? First day, my tank was all cloudy due to my Aqua Soil Amazonia New Normal type, and next day, it started to clear. Could it be small little dirt on it? Here's an image. ![]() My Build: http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/ta...adventure.html |

Looks like diatoms. If so, it will go away. Just one of those new tank growing pain type things.
Or it could be dirt from the substrate settling. Clean the plants as best you can. If it comes back, diatoms. If not, dirt.

If you can shake or rub it off easily, then it is probably just dirt from the substrate settling.
You may notice a brownish film start to form on your plants and decorations in a week or so. As the previous poster mentioned, new tanks often go through a phase of diatoms. These disappear on their own once the tank establishes a balance. |
