BKK babies

I picked up some BKKs from the sale back in September from some of the sellers on this forum. Had my first berry last month and am starting to see the resulting babies now. They are 1-2 weeks old. So far, I have had a pretty high survival rate based on clutch size versus the amount of babies I've seen. I know others picked up some during this sale, any luck with breeding?

Nice, I picked some up too, and I've got a tank full of babies now. Care to share your parameters?

Mine are:

Temp 70
pH 5
GH 4
KH 0

Temp: 72
pH: 5.8
gH: 4
kH: .5

They are in a way over-filtered 7.5 gallon.

It would be nice if "amateurs" have enough luck with breeding to drop the prices some, these truly are great looking shrimp that I would love to see more people be able to afford.

I think they're affordable for what you get, but so far I haven't found them difficult to breed.

If you think about it, a really superb SSS flower with solid white is still over a hundred dollars. A BKK which has really superb solid black and white is still under 70 dollars. Plus, I think they look way cooler than a flower.

I thought they'd be way more difficult to breed than they ended up being. I was afraid if I could even keep them alive, but it's been about 6 months since I started keeping them, and about 4 months since they've started breeding and I was surprised... I don't do anything special to keep them, they're in the same parameters as my CRS.

What!!! I'm still a skeptic because from my understanding:

10% survivability.
The fast they way to get them is via hybrids.
Even the video of Fu's Factory said the shrimps are not as physically strong and need to be kept with Taiwan bees and goldens.

Either way great job, and I wish you guys success. This is great news for the shrimp fan (but bad news for the Diamond Black/Crystal Black shrimp). I hope it is really true and not a hoax!!!

I probably won't jump on the bandwagon until I see a bunch of others who can duplicate the success.

Please keep us posted on your success!!!

The 10% survivability was from the first batches that came out a couple years ago, they're much hardier now.. Probably from fu keepin them with crystals and back crossing like they said in that video.. I just wish mine made it from that sale had a bad batch of Malaya Powder soil ruin my tank parameters and killed all of my taiwans, most of crystals, and all but 1 of my TT's it's much better now, but I don't have the funds to buy more just yet.

Edit: forgot to say congragulations to you guys with the babies! Congratz :P

I've been pleasantly surprised as well. I did quite a bit of reading before purchase and while people seemed to be able to keep the adults alive OK, breeding was a whole different animal. I am guessing at least some of that had come from earlier strains and the line has been improved, at least somewhat. It is kind of why I was asking to see if others have had successful breeding...it may be we are just the "lucky" ones.

I can post some pics of the adults later tonight.

Nice! My BKKs just had a few babies a few days ago too. Sadly both of the ones i got were females and got impregnated by some CRS. Got a red wine, but i think he is male since he is smalle in size. Maybe i should try to breed them with him.

Well, breeding and keeping the babies alive for any caridina species is a whole different ball game then just keeping juvies-adults alive.. Most all of the hype about the tb's was from only the early strains, I guarantee the line has been improved. the batches that have been sold here since last summer are definitely hardier. Mine outlasted most of the crystals that died due to bad water conditions.

I really need to get a macro lens for my dslr, but these are best I can do with what I got. The black color is truly pure black...the only way you can see berried mamas is lighting them up from the rear.
