Which reminds me,
![]() ![]() my coconut from my old tank lol... shrimps seem to know about "no place like home" but I'm happy that my driftwood offers additional hide outs for the shrimp to feels safe hopefully the gaps/holes in the driftwood will be a nice place for them to settle in if the coconut hut gets too full ![]() ![]() ![]() and I guess that's all for now ;o

I like the looks of it!
What are the lights? What did you use for the substrate? How about the flora? I'm aiming for a tank that looks similiar to this in the coming weeks... |

Subbed. Was waiting for you to start one. Be honest, how hard was it removing shrimp lol? And you didn't even drain the water either!!!
You should post your gear and flora list as well

@DesmondTheMoonBear
Thanks for the comment and the answers to your questions are posted right above this post @diwu13 and lol thanks, made this journal since you asked me to make one when I mentioned I was planning on making a 10 gal tank for the winter break and oh my GOD it was so !#^!#^^!#!#&#!&!#& catching the shrimp... espicially the BABY ones... "project no baby shrimp left behind" managed to find only one baby shrimp (so so sooo small) after staring into the remains of my 5.5 gal for like a good 10-15 minutes zoning out lol STILL a success though (: ! I doubt I'll be making any additions/modifications to this tank anytime soon... other than getting some MTS from a LFS since I added way more sand compared to my former 5.5 gal tank. Gotta keep that sand aerated

I guess your shrimp are breeding for you as well now +1 to adding MTS. Just don't let them take over the tank :P

Turkey basters make great baby catchers.
Tank looks good, looks like the stem I sent you is still doing ok. If it wasn't, the leaves would have already started wilted, so i think its taking plant and should start to root in a while and it looks like the frogbit is starting to multiple a bit already as well. Now, what are going to do with the 5.5gal? lol.

@diwu13
moved the 'specs' to the first post & no worries I won't let the MTS overpopulate @GeToChKn lol I don't have a turkey baster with me but I used my siphoning tube to get most of the agile shrimplets after netting the sizable shrimps. and yeah the stem you sent me is doing great! When I uprooted it from the 5.5gal it grew another root (so 2 roots in total now) and the frogbit is starting to branch itself out (: it should be able to cover the surface of water sooner or later (bigger surface area now so I'm happy) and with the 5.5gal... I'm either going to give it away to a friend or make it into a planted tank for the summer. Or keep small small fish in it... or turn it into a quarantine tank... (fun fun)

Ya, the frogbit grows pretty fast. I have been pulling out bunches and giving to my roomie for his 55gal tank and his feeder guppies love it and have started breeding in it and the spawn hiding in there. Same with my platys, they the babies hang out in there for a week or so after being born.

hmm mini update:
the driftwood seems to be growing some white cotton fungus... according to the Google results and some forum threads that popped up, it is harmless lol. Seems like my shrimp are grazing on it too. Hopefully nothing bad happens. and yeah I see the shrimp hanging on the frogbit from time to time it's kinda actually cute XD

The cotton fuzz is totally safe. Had that all over my cholla wood. Took 50 shrimps all of 1 day to clean it up haha. I was amazed. Don't bother feeding your shrimp when the fuzz is still there, they get enough to eat just from that!
But wait.. in this picture Quote:

How did you get that Java to drape over that front piece so nicely? I've got almost an exact same DW that comes to the front glass like that; I have Java Moss on both sides hoping it will grow over the top and onto it. Any tips?
Looking good!
