Question on Trimming Amazon Swords

I was wondering how do you guys trim amazon swords? Mine are growing pretty well and there are triple the amount of leaves it started with, and some have reached the top of my tank. I like the way they look but if they continue to grow like this I will want to trim it or take them out (which would be difficult as I've taken one a while ago and their roots are pretty deep).

Would you guys go down to the base of the plant and cut the leaves you don't want?

I cut them off at the base and the plants keep growing fine.

Yep, just cut a leaf down by the crown of the plant.
