30 gal long tank (dry start method)

Here is my 30 gal long tank I just put together via dry start method.

Equipment
Aqueon 30 gal. long tank (36x12x16) open top
36" Coralife T5NO 2x21w dual 6700k bulbs
2x Hagen AC70 HOB filters with Marineland filter pad and 1000g of Fluval Biomax rings per filter
Eheim Jager 75-watt heater

Substrate
Mirage-Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix (1-1 1/2 inches)
CaribSea Tahitian Moon sand (1/4 in)

Plants
Glossostigma
Dwarf Hair grass
Cryptocoryne parva
Pigmy Chain Sword

Cholla driftwood sticks

I have the lights on 12-hour timer.

I bought the plants and driftwood from Planted Aquariums Central and they are great. They even sent me 3 extra pots.

Looks good. Maybe just cover the top instead of wrapping the whole tank Therefore the moisture will stay in the tank; not around it. Also it would be more sightly.

I noticed everything grows faster when you just plant in the MGOPM and when it is filled in ,cap with sand.
I am working this way after 3 months of no growth in my HC. 1 week in pure MGOPM, it grew more than in 3 months.

Yeah I think I am going to break it into 3 different pieces and plant around the whole rock.

I changed the way I had the plastic wrapped and now its taped around the top of the tank so the moisture should now only stay contained within the tank.

I really thought about doing that when I first in put the MGOPM but then thought it might get super messy when filling up. Although I barely have much tahitian moon in there. I would say its 1/4 inch of sand at the thickest area. But wouldn't putting in the sand after it is filled cover the carpet plants?

I am not sure if to stick with 12-hour light period or go down to 10.

Also my lights are currently inside the plastic wrapping. Is that bad and should I put them on the outside?

Light period as long as possible 12 - 16h. I do from 9-10 am to 1-2 am

When the lights are under the plastic you have a chance on corsion and maybe the life of the light fixture can shorten... but if this is only for a month, it won't make a big difference. Also, you will concentrate heat from the light fixture in the tank, but thats not to bad in the winter.

Edit, Ur i n Texas, don't let the temp inside the tank go over 90.
Edit, just checked the weather for you and seems like its cold there...
