Rilis are hardy? Yeah right.

Last week I got my rili shrimp. Ordered 6 of them, got 8. 1 DOA. Never had a DOA before, even with CRS. Next day, 2 dead. So I moved them out of my CRS tank, which I assumed was better for them (same water, just more lightly stocked) and put them in my 2.5 gallon with my fire reds/sakuras. Went several days without a death and today saw a pile of shrimp. I thought, "that's weird, I didn't feed them yet," but upon closer examination, found my second to last female rili. So now I have FOUR of them. Wow. Never, ever had a problem before and everything else is still doing just dandy. Blows my mind (and my wallet).

Sorry to hear about your loss. I would still consider them a hardy shrimp, you never know what happens during their travels. When I received my originals the bag was broken and the shrimp were all on the side or in a little puddle left in the bag. All 100% alive, might of just happened but I figured someone must have dropped the box for the bag to break open.
Did they seem really warm or cold when they arrived? Box beat up?

dumb question.... but did you acclimate them by slow drip? every new shrimp I introduce to my tanks I use a 1/4" hose tied in a knot and slow drip for an hour or so. I know this is extreme but its the safest way

Could've been ammonia burn from sitting in the bag with that doa during the trip.. Idk, but that sucks

yes i'd imagine they are only slightly more sensitive than cherries due to breeding, so that leaves shipping stress or water chemistry difference between their seller's tank and yours.

I drip acclimate for hr 1/2 or 2, works great for me. I think shipping took its toll on this one, but with your 4 rilis, the colony has a lot of promise.

Those shrimp were prpobably doomed from being stuck in the bag with the corpse water (ammonia poisoning). Moving them to a different tank after 1 day may have stressed the shrimp as well.

Ammonia sucks. Lost a bag of 12 SSS shrimps this year. $$$ bye bye cash.

Next time have a separate tank setup for new arrivals!

My Blue Rili have been great, I got 4.2 and now I have 30+ shrimplets and my 2 females are berried again and due in a week or so. Dunno what it is with some Neos; my RCS, Sakuras, Chocolates and Blue Rili are fine and dandy but I struggle with my PFR tank. Good luck with your remaining Rili.

Sorry to hear about your loss. They act just like RCS in my tank.

Blue Rili's have been doing great for me. I bumped up my co2 a little too high and I lost a few CBS, but my rili's did just fine. As SSS Fan, I have 30+ babies and momma is looking good again.

I redid my tank that was infected with rilis, and had the bucket of old substrate with half an inch of water in it sitting on my shrimp room floor for a week and a half before dumping it in the garden. Aftwarss I brought the bucket inside, and it was really stinky and muddy, so I rinsed it in the bath tub, and when I was done, there was 2 rilis flopping around in the tub, so I scooped them up and tossed them in an uncycled amazonia tank I had just set up, and theyre still alive.
