Coffee Bowl![]() Iwagumi Bowl 1gl. bowel, HC planted in coffee grounds substrate, dry started 11/21/2011 Coffee Grounds Substrate Start with used coffee grounds, these were recycled from a Donut shop. ![]() Rinse until the water runs this clear. ![]() Drain as much water out as possible. I used paper towels ![]() Spead on a cookie sheet and place in a 200 degree oven for 30min to dehydrate. Stir and re-spead at 10min intervales to speed dehydration. This will help solidify any remaining oils & caffeine left over from brewing & your rinsing. The grounds will be a light brown color. ![]() Plant as you would any other substrate (sprayed prior to planting) ![]() Wet, the grounds look deep black and are very uniform in size. (Temp rock work)

Coffee Grounds - Contain about 4% nitrogen, 1% phosphorus, and 3% potassium.
"Contrary to popular belief, coffee grounds are not acidic. After brewing, the grounds are close to pH neutral, between 6.5 and 6.8. The acid in the beans is mostly water-soluble, so it leaches into the coffee we drink." http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0707171641.htm

This seems really cool as I drink a pot of coffee every two days. So I got lots of extra grinds! It'll be funny if you put in fish/shrimp and they start whizzing around from the caffine. But I think most likely they'll just drop dead 3: !! How are you taking those photos, they look really vintage haha.

From what little I know of coffee roasting, the more you roast, the stronger the flavor, but the lower the caffeine amount. Does baking at 200* for 30 mins help eradicate any caffeine remaining after the rinse then?
This is an ingenious idea. What do you plan on for livestock?

I noticed that with each rinse less oil film was seen on the rinse water. I'm not as concerned about the caffeine as that should have been mostly removed in the brewing process. My thought on dehydration was solidify any remaining oils that give ground the coffee smell. I found very slight coffee smell after the drying. In hindsight, I should have rinsed a small test to see If I was correct. Considering comments like: Quote:

Who would have thought 3 Rocks would be so aggravating. I've re-scaped it three times, split rocks twice but, I got it!
Now, I need to leave it alone.
