Is there a difference between flourite and flourite red? Besides color. I want to use the flourite red, buy before I spend $25 on a bag, I want to make sure I get the right kind.

Thanks

I've used them both and the red has a lot more dust that has to be washed away before you can use it. Because of this, I'll be using the regular from now on. Besides the red isn't drastically different color wise from the regular. You'd have to look hard to see the difference.

The CEO of Seachem said that they would soon start washing the red just like the regular. Seems they were not washing it as much. So the dust problem should go away soon.

Check out www.bigalsonline.com (or one of their competitors). I think you'll save yourself a bundle, even with shipping.

Possible, prices vary at least $4/bag on flourite in my area. The best LFS price plus local tax is within pennies of the price from Big Al's plus shipping. One bag of Onyx sand from BA got an extra shipping price of $7.07 tacked on for me.

And that would have still been cheaper than the local guy who wanted $20/bag.

If it's not a significant difference, I try to support the LFS. But one store tags a H.O.T. Magnum @ $100, and BA has it at $40. Support is one thing, subsidy quite another...
