2 varieties of Lace plant?
Is there 2 varieties of lace plant? I got 2 varieties of lace plant from 2 different LFS. Both told me that there are 2 varieties of them, one is a bit taller than another. The taller one has longer and more slender leaves. The shorter variety has shorter and more rounded leaves.
Is that true? I have both in my tank now, but wondering if these 2 are simply results of the same varieties except one was kept in a brighter tank and one in a less bright tank? |

There are at least 3 varieties (species possibly) of lace plant.
The individual plants themselves are not like crypts, they don't take on completely different forms in different tanks. One thing you will see in the same plant in different tanks is how 'meaty' the leaves look. When I give away seedlings to folks sometimes they grow out looking hard and thin, when mine at home are soft and fleshy looking. I must be overfeeding them or not letting them get enough exersize.

Aquascape? I'm a crypt farmer. It's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot. That IS an aquascape, it's titled "The Vacant Lot". |

By lace plants, I'm assuming Aponogeton madagascariensis. The three varieties are: Variety madagascariensis (narrow leaf, less fenestration [holes]), var. henkelianus (has irregular fenestration) and var. major (has consistent fenestration) the last two are both wide-leaved forms.
