What kills BGA!?

I've tried Excel and hydrogen peroxide treatment, but it just makes it worse. What can I do to kill it? All help is needed.

I know that some anti-bacterial medications work well, but can't remember which ones exactly. Also they might harm your nitrifying bacteria, so if you have a lot of fish in the tank it's not recommended. Also, increasing the current should help, as BGA thrives in stagnant water. I remember reading somewhere that increasing nitrates helps too, but I'm not sure if this is true.

Every time I increase the flow, the algae starts getting these long strings of algae shooting off of it. They seem to release some sort of seed too. The seeds look like the little string fibers that you get if you start rubbing a paper napkin on dry glass. There are lots of them too.

what axelrodi is right water flow could help but also get a scraper and try to remove it manually then add bactirial agents if there is less bga in the water when you add the chemicals it might make the bga miniscual enough that it will go away if all else fails move your fish to a new tank after letting the other tank cycle and completely scold the bga tank
the risk of your fish dying in the new tank is alot better then having them die slowly in bga.

Marycn indeed works.

Another solution is to sprinkle Bacter 100 over it and it will remove it.

I had a major outbreak after my co2 went bust for a while, Maracyn 2, full dose and full length of time, was a 100% success. 3 weeks now and not a sign to be seen. I cleaned out as much as I could, did a huge water change first, then treated. Fish survival 100% and testing showed absolutely no impact on biological filtration, which quite surprised me.

Lower your lighting period and or intensity. It will slowly recede and go away.

Ok, I just got around to looking at Marycn. Which one should I get Marycn liquid form, Marycn powder form, Marycn tablet form, or Marycn 2 of all the forms mentioned?

orginal plain maracyn, comes in packets in a powder form.

Petsmarts sell them in 8 or 24 counts.
