That remind me to get a new pH meter. I have not tested any of the new CRS tank pH since my old meter had to be retired cause I left it out.

Nice CRS.
I can't tell whether the new tank will breed well or not. My most successful breeding CRS tank is still my 5gal that has given me at least 500 CRS so far. What's not sold so far are in the other 3 20gal now. Each of the tank are holding S, SS and SSS. They all have berried female. I will find out over the next 2-3 months to see how those tank do. All my new CRS tank uses fluval stratum. I really wanted to use worm castings again but I prefer not to mess with castings is large amount. If these don't work, I'll switch them. The CRS I recently got from Shawn are 1st, 2nd and 3rd stringer.

Like I told Bill, not really looking to just breed to sell. Only selling what I don't have room to keep to offset some of the cost of running all these tanks. I don't really push to sell them, that's why it's not even listed on SnS and I should (need to get rid of quite a few). I am far from being any master. Just trying some of the methods of raising breeding discus on CRS. You are probably more into having a nice looking display tank. My worm castings tank is ugly and has only one purpose only (turning out CRS babies). I am just hoping to refine more of my original CRS and have a crown only tank.

Weird thing is I have soft water. I always thought soft water tended to be acidic and hard water basic. Don't really understand how there can be a high Ph without a mineral buffer. Maybe i'll do some searching today and see if I can find an answer. Master Van |

Man, 8.0 out of the tap? I would be cutting it with distilled or ro water. Although, you do have the ph at a manageable level for crs.

I think my water is a bit more soft than yours. Soft water doesn't always have low pH. Water company may be putting your water through lots of aeration which will cause the high pH. Here is a test for you if you have not done it before. Take a bucket of tap. Measure the pH Do another bucket with an airstone in it. Test each bucket 24 hours later. Report back the 3 readings.

Duh.....i forgot aerating the h2o releases carbon and raises ph. And that is the reason you are Master Van
