What is duckweed good for?

What is duckweed good for? Does all it do is float at the top of the tank? Do any fish like to eat it

Duckweed is a nitrate sponge... Good for sucking a tank dry of it in fact... but once you ahve it.. you are never free of it

Unless you dont own a fishnet ... LOL
I enjoyed growing it the first time but then its on to something else that dont block out my light.
