Container pond problem. please help
My container pond project is actually progressing, and I'm planning on stocking it soon with some local Gambusia and a shubunkin. However, there's one main problem I've ran into. The pond is already placed in the ground, and this area is away from an outdoor power outlet. That being said, it might be a bit difficult to run the cord from the pump to the closest power outlet. any advice on how to do this, in the most hassel free way?
I know they have solar pumps, but I haven't heard many good things about them. Does anyone know of any good solar pumps? Thanks in advance. |

Yeah, I was thinking I might just have to run an extension cord underground through a pvc pipe to the closest power outlet. How difficult would it be to do the whole pvc pipe thing?

Not too hard, PVC is relatively easy to work with and seal up. Use a quality cord though and be sure it is suited for outdoor use. I think they make ones that are specifically for ponds and such.

You're definetly going to want a GFCI or a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter if you do the extension cord thing, it's just not safe otherwise. If you're willing to shell out some money Gardeners Supply has good quality solar fountains, if its just aeration you're looking for. If you actually want a filter filter, then I don't know of any solar powered ones I'd recommend. Hope this helps and good luck!

thanks! I might sound really stupid when I ask these questions but here goes:
1.) Splendid splendens: What exactly do you mean by "seal up" 2.) Chlora: I have very little experience as an electrician, or anything similar, so could you explain the GCFI deal? |

None of my 12 or so container ponds have currents in them just heavily planted and recieve around 4 or 5 hours of sun a day , go for it ! just keep stocking minium ,most fish breed like crazy, also still water attracts mosquitos and your fish will love them .no need to feed , I prob feed once every two weeks , and this year have baby swords wcmm blackskirts and zebra danios everywhere!
